FS2004? MS pls answer!!

AJ, I'm not a Microsoft employee, but I can tell you this discussion is best
done on the various flight sim forums where the enthusiasts gather. I can
also tell you the FS 2004 Century of Flight SDK is not completed yet.
Beyond that, I just play the game and enjoy it. 8-)

As for previous versions of a/c not being completely compatible with FS2k4,
probably in some cases. I'd wait for the SDK to be finalized, though.

Chris, that's because you only see it as a game. Other enthusiasts and
pilots don't. Also, yes, I am taking part in discussions on this in some of
those forums. And I'm sure that previous a/c are bound to have compatibility
issues - but that's *not* what this is about!!

The Avsim thread I posted the link to suggests that FS2004 has been dumbed
down. The question is not 'Why did they fail to include the elements
discussed?', but rather appears to be 'Why did they *remove* the elements
discussed?' And having removed them, the flight dynamics of the best
aircraft are now less realistic. The Avsim thread goes on to suggest that MS
don't want the *better* flight dynamics of many third-party aircraft to show
up the default aircraft.

Read the Avsim thread. I didn't take it too seriously until I began reading
it. And the authors are apparently no novices at calculating flight models
etc.

For realistic flight dynamics, I'm sticking with 2002 until they fix 2004.
And if they don't fix it, I'm not buying it. The add-on a/c I have bought
are so amazingly close to the *real* ones that I also fly. Why should I
compromise on that?

AJ, all I can tell you there were changes made, as with previous versions.
Also, those FS forums are the appropriate place for discussions like that.
This newsgroup supports games on Windows XP, and is not a general discussion
area for the workings of the software or playability methods of those games.

For clarification - and I agree that this is not the best forum to
talk about it: the flight model equations have been changed in
the FS9 code, with many changes to the flight dynamics entries (AoA
and AoI entries no longer supported). This now must be modeled in the
"old" Table 404 entries, more work for the FDE author but *can* be
done with some effort.

Ok, point taken about this not being the best place.
But in answer to your comment about the new requirements on the FDE authors,
the removal of support for AoA and AoI actually stuffs up the FDE because
modifying in the 404 to allow for AoA and AoI doesn't make allowance for
drag and hence produces incorrect flight characteristics. It's not a matter
of "some effort". Read the link I posted. It is very comprehensive and makes
a strong case. The authors actually experimented with the very thing you are
talking about. This amounts a dumbing down of the flight model, taking it a
couple of very significant steps *away* from reality, which for pilots like
myself is maddening. Having discovered this, I *won't* be buying it. Pity. I
was so looking forward to it.

I have read the thread, and I find the same names who called the FS
developers "idiots" about FS2002 flight dynamics so you shouldn't even
be using any version of FS if you listen to them... :-)
