frustrating date autoformat

Aaron

I have some data that I am pasting into excel that contains numbers in
the form of:

A-B

If "A" is larger than 12, excel leaves it alone. But if "A" is 12 or
lower, excel converts the entry into a date.

I have tried formatting the cells as "text" prior to pasting the data,
but to no avail.

Any tips on how to stop excel from autoformating my data incorrectly?

Thanks in advance.

Format the data as Text and when pasting the new data use Edit-->Paste
Special-->Values.

In Excel 2002, you can access this special paste using the drop down arrow
next to the Paste button on Excel's Standard Toolbar.

Robert:

Thanks so much for your reply.

Unfortunately, the data is copied from a web page. When I past
special, I do not have the option to paste just the values.

The options I have are "text" "unicode text" and "html". If I us
either of the first options, I lose the column formatting (al
information in compressed into the first column). If I use the thir
option, I have the same problem as before.

Ugh -- how frustrating this is. There must be some way to turn off th
date autoformatting function but I can't figure it out.

Any other suggestions? Thanks
