Hi

This is probably a long shot but I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I
am trying to upgrade to vista ultimate. I get to the final step (completing
installation) and computer crashes at exactly 57% done. This happened 5 or 6
times. The error message indicates that the problem is caused by a device
driver. I was on the phone with a window tech advisor. They had me disable
the suspect drivers and try again. I had the same result...crashed at 57%
done. Now that are saying it is proably a software conflict even though I
still get the error message saying the problem is caused by a device driver.
Does anyone have any knowledge of common software that might be interfering.
I am not sure if I am providing enough info. for anyone to help

Thanks

Try updating your BIOS and removing all PCI and PCIe cards (apart from
essential) before trying to install.

Troy,

Is there an obvious way for someone to do a clean install with an upgrade
CD? Is there a website for the OP to go to that explains how to do this?

Alan

If you are able to boot from the CD then do clean install....clean install
is best bet versus upgrading. However; do you have this option available?

Install Vista first with no Cd Key.
After install without Vista Key install again with the cd key!
Here we go! hehe

I had a similar problem when I tried the upgrade from XP Pro to Vista
Ultimate. When you start the setup there is an option to load vista and
move your existing files to windows.old. When I used this option instead
of the upgrade the install worked. I did have to load all of my existing
programs and address books etc. A real PITA but it did work.
