I have read all of the postings regarding switching the
icon background back to clear and have tried the
following to no avail...

checked use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop

Operating in Windows XP and currently have all boxes
checked under visual effects/performance/system

Stacey--

There are 3rd party apps that will make the background transparent. I don't
see them in your trial list: Two are:

http://www.sillysot.com/
http://www.sillysot.com/shots.htm

and

using Transtext 1.0 orTransparent Desktop 1.0 (free downloads) here
(scroll down):

Iconoid is free with a request for contributions. If you mouseover the
shots link's color tab, you''ll see a radiobutton setting for transparent.
You can give one of these a try. Iconoid will also color your backgrounds.

The third part of the equation is making sure you have no active desktop items. Check under:

Display Properties -> 'Desktop' tab -> 'Customize Desktop...' button -> 'Web' tab

and clear all checkboxes or delete the items.
