When I start up my computer I get a blue screen followed
by the log in window which leads to my desktop. But i
have no icons or start menu. Only the background picture
for my desktop. How can i fix this! What happened and
what should I do?

What is the exact error message that you're getting?

Irene,

I can't say I know what happened, but I do know how you might be able to
get your desktop back. Try the three finger salute (CTRL-ALT-DEL) to
start the task manager, select the applications tab, and then click the
start new task button. Type C:\WINDOWS\explorer in the 'open:' field
and then click ok.

I've had the same thing happen to me a couple of times for no apparent
reason and the above has worked for me.

Hope this helps you and gets you up and working!
