I am reinstalling Win2000 over an existing Win2000
instance to clean out a virus infestation. The reinstall
has frozen while "Installing Components" with a status bar
at about 80% and the status message stating "Status:
Configuring COM+ ...".

I've rebooted and each time setup resumes and comes back
to this same point. I've disconnected my DSL, printer, etc
think it mught be related to a currently connected
component. No luck.

Any help???

Re-installing clean or on top of an existing Windows 2000? Problems with
hardware components, such as COM ports and the services that utilize them,
can be tracked back to an existing Registry. If the offending components
cannot be corrected by using Device Manager or bios configuration setup,
to temporarily disable COM, then a clean re-install to a clean system will
always be successful.

Thanks. I fixed it by booting in safe-mode. I assume that
safe-mode disabled the offending driver/port and allowed
setup to complete. Appreciate the advise.
