I have just begun to have the problem where opening a
website in Frontpage 2000 yields the error "Documents in
this folder are not available. The folder may have been
moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a
connection to the server." Upon further investigation,
I've found that the frontpg.lck file in
<webroot>\_vti_pvt\ is corrupted. I've attemped to delete
the file but am prompted with the error "Cannot delete
frontpg: The file or directory is corrupted and
unreadable." Attempting to run chkdsk ("chkdsk
frontpg.lck") creates a very similar error and chkdsk
doesn't even seem to load. I tried to run chkdsk on the
_vti_pvt folder but can't due to the fact that
chkdsk "Cannot open the directory for direct access."
Since the file is corrupt, I cannot overwrite it either.
Does anyone have suggestions short of formatting and
starting over.

Update: I fixed the problem with frontpage by renaming
the _vti_pvt folder to something else and reinstalling
extensions but now I can't delete the old folder. What
could I try to resolve this issue? Thanks.

You might try booting the recovery console and running
chkdsk /r

To start the Recovery Console, start the computer from the Windows 2000
Setup CD or the Windows 2000 Setup floppy disks. If you do not have Setup
floppy disks and your computer cannot start from the Windows 2000 Setup CD,
use another Windows 2000-based computer to create the Setup floppy disks.
Press ENTER at the "Setup Notification" screen. Press R to repair a Windows
2000 installation, and then press C to use the Recovery Console. The
Recovery Console then prompts you for the administrator password. If you do
not have the correct password, Recovery Console does not allow access to the
computer. If an incorrect password is entered three times, the Recovery
Console quits and restarts the computer. Once the password has been
validated, you have full access to the Recovery Console, but limited access
to the hard disk. You can only access the following folders on your
computer: %systemroot% and %windir%

If the Local Security Policy in Administrative Tools Recovery console option
"Allow floppy copy and access to all drives/folders" is enabled, you can
issue the command;

SET allowallpaths = TRUE

to gain access to all folders and try deleting from here.
