I am using FrontPage 2000 with a Windows XP Home Edition SP2 and trying to
publish my website on my own PC so I can review before final publishing on a
web server. Some features are missing (e.g.: navigation button
functionalities does not work at all). How can I do to see my website full
functionalities ?
Any help will be appreciated.

Features that requires a web server or the FP extensions will not work until you have published the
site to a server via FP's http mode to a server that has the FP extensions installed.

Windows XP Home is not designed to support any MS web server or the FP extensions.

Thank you Thomas,
I published it to a web server with FP extensions on Internet and it did it
fine. The inconvenient situation is showed only on my local machine so I
cannot verify prior to send it publicly. As you say Windows XP HE does not
support any MS web server or FP extensions should I consider move my FP2K to
Windows XPPro in order to get full functionalities on my local machine ?

You could do that, but you still would not be able to text any forms to email functions.

You could also publish to the live/remote server as a subweb/subsite under your root web (if your
host allows subwebs/subsites) for testing.

It is really always best to test on the server/web space that will actually be hosting the site,
since having it work locally is a good sign that it will work on the remote server, but not a
guarantee, especially if publishing to a Unix/Linux server.

Sorry. I think I ain´t get it.
Is there no way to see the navigation button or any other functionalities
(local machine not remote or live) working under Windows XP (any flavor) and
FP2K duetto ?

Thanks in advance.

If the feature or function requires the FP extensions or a server (ASP), then you must have Windows
XP Pro with IIS and the FP extensions installed, and you must open and work on the site via
http://localhost and also use Preview in Browser via http://localhost

All versions of FP work in this manner, no matter which version of Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP.

Windows XP SP2 security limit the ability to see any active content in a web page load from a
disk-based web/location if you want to keep your system as secure as possible.

Thank you Thomas. It was very clear for me now. I really appreciated your
direct answer despite I feel sad because my Windows XP HE does not offer the
same features Windows 98SE offered trough the Personal Web Server or Win2KPro
and XPPro with IIS.
Thanks again.

Running a web server is a higher security risk.
