I too, loose my top and left side shared borders occassionally. I don't know
why. I have not changed the borders settings. I DID attempt to check for
updates from Microsoft, and almost think it damaged something.
When the shared borders 'self destruct' (love that description!), the border
areas remain, but are filled with a message that the page can be added to a
navigation tool or something to that effect. In the past, I have had to
download the site from my server and restart the whole thing that way. I have
been fortunate enough that it is not lost on the server, only on the local
computer.
Today, I have spent many hours trying to figure out what has happened to
them this time. It is @#$#@#$. The only thing I have done, besides doing
hours of research, is cleared cache via my ZoneAlarmPro privacy tool. Later,
I came back and opened FrontPage, opened one of my pages to see the exact
message in the borders (so I could write it here), and voila, the page
appeared with the borders! It would not open in a browser with the borders,
but I dared and hit save and then it did open properly and even uploaded
properly with WS_FTP.
The other strange thing that was happening, was that when I tried to open a
web site (local), it was opening in the entire upper level folder of My Webs,
and showed all the other web sites I have in there. This time, I opened from
the bar that appeared on the right side when I opened FrontPage, and it
opened fine, as above.
If anyone has ideas of why this happens, I would greatly appreciate some
insight. I just can't afford to loose days of time on software failures. I am
also trying now, to find the "right" software to replace FrontPage, since it
has been dropped.
Thank you.
