When I click on "Help" and "Check for Updates" in Fp 2003, I receive an error
message that says "This Operation Has Been Canceled Due To Restrictions On
This Computer."

Other features of Fp appear to be working OK.

Microsoft had nothing in regards to this error.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2 with all upgrades.

Kathleen,

Thanks. But the page you gave me doesn't open. I've tried both IE and
Firefox and I get a blank page.

It opens for me in IE.

Steve,

Yes. The only account on the computer is the Administrator account.
I also finally was successful in getting the page(s) that Kathleen
suggested, and I went through the policy checks but nothing was set wrong. In
fact none of the policies that would effect this were even set.

this is what the page Kathleen gave the link for says:

applications.
..Run only the allowed Windows applications.

STATUS
This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

To do this, click User Configuration, click Administrative Templates, and
then click System.

Steve,

Yes. The only account that's been on this computer has been an Admin one.
Fp used to work just fine as that's what I had used to set up the subsite in
the first place. As I said, FP works just fine as far as publishing goes.

I've found several suggestions on various web sites but most of them refer
to problems in not being able to open Internet Options in the Control Panel.
I have no problem with that.

I found the problem - well, actually I found a solution. I don't know why.
I opened IE and clicked on Tools, Programs and then Reset Web Defaults,
including resetting the home page.

I then rebooted the computer and now Fp is working normally.
