I need help, I am publishing my website through frontpage but the transfer
rate shows 38k, I have fiber optic cable, I don't know why it uses 38k
transfer rate. can any one help to increase the transfer rate please.

38K is very fast compared to my 12K on ADSL.

Remember that the rate for publishing is not only moving files from one
place to another - it is also takes into account time taken to open or
create, update and close meta data files on both the local and remote
websites.

The way to increase the rate is to upgrade the hardware on your PC and
on the server, reduce the number of web sites on the server so that it
is not so busy, and so on. None of these is really practical.

I know this is an old thread.
Based on what's written below, would you guess that if my local web site is
stored on a network drive, then publishing from that network drive would give
me slower speeds than if I were publishing from a local drive?

Definitely.

The data has to go from the network drive to your PC to the Internet.
Files have to be updated on the network drive, and on the site you are
publishing to
And some files are updated on your PC as well.

Depending on your internal network conditions, the server running your
network drive, the whole process could take a lot longer.

Incidentally, my 2Mbps ADSL (256Kbps upload) connection has been upgraded to
10Mbps (512Kbps upload) cable, and the server has moved to a "faster" box.
The typical publishing rate has improved from 12K to 15K publishing to
FrontPage extensions, and 50K (maximum the cable can handle on uploads)
using FTP at the same site, which points to limitations at the server when
any processing of files is involved. (FTP is confined to a subweb
containing images - the extensions on this subweb are probably corrupted
now.)
