I'm getting an error message when attempting to publish updates to a website
- it says "sharepoint services may not be installed at server" (which they
are) or "server down" (it's not) and a couple other possibilities - I'm not
even given the chance to input my user-name and password. I've made updates
on this site - on this same server before - any ideas what the problem may be?
Thanks!

Check your firewall and make sure it's not blocking FP. Also check to make
sure there haven't been any changes such as a proxy server being changed.
Usually when this sort of message happens it's because something has slammed
the door on FP and it has decided it just can't communicate with the site.
For example, when a firewall blocks a program from accessing port 80, it
can't communicate with the extensions on the server and decides there's
nothing there to talk to hence the error without even being asked for a
password (no need to it to ask for a password because nothing on the other
end has asked for one).

What did your host say when you contacted them?
