FrontPage Mac Access?

L

Leslie P.

I have a website that was built and is updated via
FrontPage. Most of the content consists of Active Server
Pages, with some HTML pages. I don't want to give up my
ability to "instantly" update content via FrontPage.
However, my boss has a Mac and wants to be able to update
content as well. I asked my programmer if he knew of any
solutions and his reply was: "It has to be one or the
other. If you access a frontpage site with FTP then
frontpage will get corrupted. We can switch the whole
site to be an FTP site instead of frontpage, and then
both of you will have to use FTP from now on."

I know FrontPage made a Mac version a while back, but
it's no longer offered. And I am not familiar with
software options for Mac's so I don't know if there is a
product that my boss could use that would be similar to
FrontPage, yet not corrupt anything.

I really hate to lose my FrontPage access and features.
I realize that I can still update content with FrontPage,
then upload the new webpage via my FTP client, but I was
wondering if anyone else had any experience or advice
before I tell my programmer to go ahead and switch the
whole site to be an FTP site.

My apologies if I sound like a novice... but that would
be due to the fact that I am a novice.

Thanks,
Leslie P.

macromedia has something called contribute. it claims to be able to allow
fp updates without fp. I think they have a Mac version. I don't know if
it'll wreck the fp extensions though.

what is it that your boss wants to update? maybe you could make a subweb
and let him wreck the fp extensions on that one. you could put stuff for
him to edit in that subweb and then include the files with the .asp include.

maybe if we knew more about what you're trying to do and why we could give
you better advice.

Here, maybe this will help:

Our website is bingobugle.com (I don't know if we're
allowed to post URLs or not). If you go there, you'll
see we have a navigational bar at the top and bottom of
the main page. Clicking on navigational links will open
the new page inside that "frame". Even with FrontPage, I
have to be careful when making changes in content, or the
next thing I know, the top and left nav areas are
skewed. My boss wants to be able to change content on
some of those pages such as changing a contact's email
address, adding an article about something - mostly text
changes.

Again, I apologize for my lack of knowledge.. then again,
that's why I came here ;-)

If the areas he is interested in updating is limited, you could set up a subweb in FP just for the FTP access (and don't open the
subweb in FP)
