Good evening all!
I am a newbie to web design. I have included 3 forms I created in FP2000 on
the site I am trying to construct for my high school alumni class
http://www.sunsetclassof69.com. I think I filed out the form handler
correctly, but upon uploading the forms and attempting to test said forms, I
get error messages. I have talked to my ISP and they claim it is a design
problem. The forms are…Bio; Update your information and guest book. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FP's form handler only works with FrontPage extensions enabled (and working)
and you Publish via http:// method.

ps, it'd be NICE to be able to shut off the music (as much as I like the
Beach Boys) it's annoying to some.

Rob,
Thanks for the quick reply...I went back and read the “publish via http†in
the FP help section and checked to see if the FP extensions were enabled.
They are. Do I have to publish the entire web again or just the form pages to
get them to function properly? I upload htm pages and all other items using
“FTP Pro†software…is that the same thing as “via http

Thanks again!

FP extensions do not appear to be installed, it should return a page when
entering:

http://www.sunsetclassof69.com/_vti_inf.html

And it doesn't.

Using third party FTP like FTP Pro or whatever, will break the extensions if
they are installed, so if they really are, they are broken and need to be
repaired. Sometimes hosts will provide a control panel where you can do it
yourself, sometimes they don't and you have to get them to fix.

No ftp is definitely not the same as Publishing via http:// method.

Well, I have used both FP and an FTP program to transfer programs to the web. But my site is *not* an FPSE site

It is *not* recommended to use FTP to transfer files to an http site with FPSE - it can break the FP server extensions on the remote
site.

I suggest that you try FP publish via http and see what it wants to transfer. It may do a lot of files again, but at least you will
get into sync. and next time it will only publish changed files.

The HTML definitely indicates the extensions are not there or have become
corrupt. Use of FTP to transfer the form page will automatically produce the
Save Results Component message.

http://www.sunsetclassof69.com would be your publish destination. Since you
have used FTP, reinstall or reset the extensions from your site control panel
and just open the web and go to File >> Publish Web.

It may take a short time for the extensions to set up, so take a breather.
Make sure the publish destination has the http:?? in front of it.

....and, once the extensions are installed and enabled, the host must
configure the forms to email transport for the forms.

Also a suggestion.

Newsgroups are slow. Ask your question ONCE and wait at least 48 hours
before trying again.

You are spamming this group with several of the same question at once, that
is rude and a waste of everybody's time.

Thanks to all for the reply,
I have resent the forms via http:// and get a “FrontPage Run-Time Component
page†message when you submit form. I really don’t know what this means…is
the form now working correctly?

It means, as we said before, that your web does not have FrontPage
extensions installed or they are not working....and your host also has to
enable the FP forms handler to work.

Rob,
I, again, have gone into FP and reassured the FP extensions are on (as per
the help file) tools > Page Options > Compatibility. The “enable with
Microsoft FrontPage server extensions†is checked. I have also talked with my
ISP and have asked them to recheck that they have their stuff is turned on.
Does this sound right to you?

You checked your local computer for the FP server extensions, which is not
related to your remote web.

As you have been told, the FP server extensions are either not installed or
configured properly on the remote web, as is shown when you test by going
to:

http://www.sunsetclassof69.com/_vti_inf.html and getting a page not found
error.

Your host must repair, or install, and enable the extensions for your site.
They must also enable and configure the forms to email transport in the
extensions for the form to work.

Hi Dick,

Verifying the page is enabled with extensions is good as this is required.

Unfortunately since you used FTP previously, you broke the extensions.

They have to be reset or reinstalled. If you go into your site control
panel, you should see a reference to FrontPage (if you don't see it, ask your
host where to reinstall the extensions). This is where you would either reset
| reinstall | install or enable etc.

If this isn't an available control panel option, then the host would have to
reinstall them for you.

The extensions can become corrupt at the drop of a hat (although this is
frequently from FTP use).

Tom,
I got a message from my ISP that they had to reinstalled FP server
extensions. When you click the link from your last post you get a different
message. http://www.sunsetclassof69.com/_vti_inf.html . What does it mean?

I resubmitted the forms through http:// and ran a test but got the same
message as before. I will resubmit the form again?

Dick

When I clicked on the link, I got:

FrontPage Configuration Information
In the HTML comments, this page contains configuration information that the
FrontPage Explorer and FrontPage Editor need to communicate with the
FrontPage server extensions installed on this web server. Do not delete this
page.

Which means the extensions are installed.

Now, your host must enable the forms to email transport in the extensions in
order for the forms to email submission to work.

That means that FP server extensions are indeed now installed. Now...do NOT
use FTP to upload your web files to the server..you should use File |
Publish Web/Site and enter http://www.sunsetclassof69.com as to where you
are publishing to.

Now Publish your web to the server, then check to see if the form works. You
may have to redo the form OR you may have to bug your host again to make
sure they enabled the FP forms handler thingie.

Rob,
When I try to republish the forms using File | Publish Web sites and I
change the ftp to HTTP and start the process, I get a prompt to sign in again
and submit my password for port “80â€. Apparently, I am not authorized to
access port 80 at my ISP from the web. Is there a work around?

Dick

You have to contact your web host for the correct FP login info, which may or may not be the same as
FTP login info or the host has not set it up to be the same.
