www.chuzzers.co.uk/q

is the form I have made using frontpage 2002s form wizard.

it apparently works but when i view the .mdb file there are no results stored.

fasthosts (the host I use) supports frontpage extensions and from my little
understanding all should be´working.

I am sorry I don't have any knowledge about asp/scripting as frontpage has
done it all for me. If there is any more information I can givé you to help
just specify how I get that info and I will post it as soon as possible.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have sent them an email and await their reply :)

Any other ideas I can be looking into or checking?

Reply from fasthosts is to look at this:

http://xtreme.fasthosts.co.uk/kbv.exe?wrap=1&ID=216

which to me says that there is no problem with permissions - unless i need
write permission on the database? In which case I need to move it to the
root folder.
So I've tried this but has now sent me backwards. As now the form doesn't
go to the confirmation page (obviouslly still no data in the database either).
I'm pretty sure I've returned everything to how it was before so I don't
quite understand why the form just appears to clear when i click submit (have
checked in the properties as to if the submit form is set to clear and it is
not. also the confirmation page is correct in the form properties too)

Other thing i noticed is note at the bottom about forlder structure...is it
possible i've altered that using FP?

This is the pertinent sentence:

"Write permissions are not allowed on the website as this would be a security risk exposing the website, and the server, to attack by hackers."

The hacker part may or may not be true...but doesn't look they'll let you have write permissions anywhere (?)...which you will need for the db.

If they don't allow the correct permissions for the db, you won't be able to use a db. You might want to talk to them, because it's kinda unusual for a host not to allow *some* kind of db usage.

I suppose a workaround could be to save info as csv file, then Import the file off the server to your harddrive and edit/open it with Excel. I do this a lot, but it's gonna be clunky if you have a lot of data. It works for me only because I only use it monthly to maintain a small private mailing list.

| So what can I do to record the data from the form?

If he can't get permisiions set for a DB, he won't be able to write to text
files either.

As Rob suggested, talk to your host. They do say...
Folders above the htdocs folder can only be accessed via FTP and server
side scripts.
SO, you should be able to have the DB above the web root.

If they can't / won't accommodate you, get a new host who can / will.

oh yer right...that's kinda limiting ain't it.

no write permissions at all ? Isn't copying files to a server
(uploading/publishing) "writing" to the server?

Thank you everyone for your help.

Fasthosts contacted me back swiftly and the solution was that I needed to
have it in a specific folder

Now works ok :)

thought so, it seemed unreasonable that they wouldn't allow some write permissions somewhere.
