I used my Motorola V557 with a dsta cable for web access while on vacation
but could not get Front Page 2003 to work with it. I was able to browse,
send and receive emails and use my FTP client, but could not make a
connection via Front Page. I was forced to update my web pages via FTP. Any
idea what the problem might be? My provider is Cingular. I was using their
EDGE network, at speeds of 115k.

Use the FTP client for what??
If you accessed / modified your web using FTP "before" you tried to log on
via http:// with FrontPage, you "might have" broken the extensions.

Since you then updated using FTP, you have "most likely" broken the
extensions and they'll need to be reset.

If none of the above applies, you might check with Cingular and see if they
allow outbound port 80 via the cell phone.

I merely changed a few prices on some items we sell usingf html. That's not
the problem. I've been doing this for years. I FTPed the html page to my
laptop, changed the prices in straight html and ftped them back. No other
chages. I don't use Frontpage extensions. My web host doesn't allow them. FTP
is my backup for simple text changes to my site, such as changing prices.
It's straight html. it's fast but it's not wysiwyg.

btw - i tried to use Frontpage before using html via ftp, not after. i tried
several times and gave up.

Ok.

What address did you try to ftp to using FrontPage??

It should have been ftp://domainname.whatever

fwiw, when I want to ftp a file to a server, I open the server location in
ftp:// in IE and drag and drop the file.

We seem to have a communications problem. Forget about the Ftp reference.
I'm sorry I brought it up. I don't use FTP in conjuction with Frontpage. I
use it INSTEAD of Frontpage. I merely brought it up to show that I had a
stable internet connection. I was able to browse using IE6, I was able to
send and receive and email, etc. So it seems that my web connection was
good. However i was not able to use FrontPage. Let's not dwell on FTP. Let's
focus on Frontpage. I appreciate that you're trying to help but i feel like
we're getting away from the solution.

So, like, what is the problem anyway?

Are you saying you wanted to open FrontPage on the laptop and see the files
on the server appear in the publish box in the right hand pane via FTP in
FrontPage and then FTP in FrontPage to the server via your mobile
connnection.

Are you saying you cannot get FrontPage on the laptop to see the server via
FTP publish and that is your problem?

I think Steve Eastons comment

"If none of the above applies, you might check with Cingular and see if they
allow outbound port 80 via the cell phone."

is the one you need to check, I'd look at the paperwork that comes with the
phone about connections and visit their site.
