Frontpage Database Needed

A new client has asked me to refurbish his web site. The original
designer used WebCatalog to provide a web page of parts that the owner
had for sale. The owner could easily use WebCatalog from IE to manage
the parts available.

WebCatalog is no longer available and I need a replacement. Any
suggestions?

Thank you.

If the web site is hosted on a Windows server, you could use an Access
database and use the FrontPage Database Interface Wizard to create pages for
your client to update the database.

There are many "shopping cart" applications available. One mentioned here
often is www.candypress.com .

If that's the type of product you're asking about; otherwise please post
back with more information.

Is this "just" a catalogue, or does your client require the ability to
actually process payments (Credit Card) etc?

There are many considerations that have to be addressed like secure
connection for credit card processing. Your client could also use
alternative payment methods such as PaypPal.

There will be no purchasing from the web site, just a catalog of parts
the seller has available. The trick is to make it easy so the seller
can manage the parts he has available at his desktop and hav the
changes reflected easily on the web page.. We are probably talking
abotu fewer than 100 different parts and these would be things like a
hood for a 1998 Mack Truck or a door from a different vehicle.

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Was WebCatalog a online service that the client was using?

Yes, as I understand it, it was online. WebCatalog is a package that
was produced by Smith-Micro. They have long since dropped the product.
From what I can gather from the owner, he was able to make changes to
the database at his office computer, and those changes would appear on
the web page. He is not web or computer savvy.

Thank you,

From what info I could find it appeared to be application that was sold at a cost of $3500.00, which
means you client should still be able to use it.

I would think he would have a license on file if he paid that much.

I found two copies for sale on eBay for very low prices ($0.01 ands
$2.99). I'll buy one to see what it's all about.

Do you know if there is another product similar to WebCatalog available
today?

I appreciate your help.

Steve
