Frontpage belly up!

With the advent of Expression for some $280.00, what is the best way to
incorporate the use of FrontPage 2002 as is? Can one use FTP and forget the
server extensions? Not every novice such as myself is going to invest this
kind of money for a home web site. Most ISP's are discontinuing server
support on their servers.

You can continue to use FP, if no extensions then you have to remove anything in your pages that
require the extensions and then you can use FP's FTP mode.

Why would you remove them, if you can still use them, since you would no longer be able to edit your
site live in FP.

My ISP no longer supports the server extensions, because of the new
Expression or so they state.
This is their statement:
Microsoft®FrontPage® Server Extensions

Earlier this year Microsoft discontinued support and distribution of
Microsoft FrontPage, commonly used for the design of web pages. The support
of FrontPage Extensions requires a set of server side plugins known as IIS
Extensions or FrontPage Server Extensions to allow its content and
publishing features to work. Due to the lack of support for this outdated
software we have been unable to incorporate the required server side
extensions into our new PWP platform. If your FrontPage client is configured
to use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) for publishing you can continue to use
FrontPage (or its successor Microsoft Expression Web) as your web authoring
client.

FWIW;
that's a pretty lame excuse.
I'd get a host that's more customer friendly.

sometimes a place is good, or reputed to be, but that doesn't mean it's
"customer friendly".
I'd be willing to be that there's going to be hosts that'll keep FPSE on a
windows box until it simply won't work anymore. why? because they
appreciate their clients and want to give them what they want/ need.

</IMHO>

Well Insightbb supposedly upgraded all of their equipment and became larger
or upgraded about eight months ago. Since then they have not supported
server extensions, but a web site builder on their server.
http://home.insightbb.com/~raldar4/ If you can call this a web site I'll
kiss it. And in the mean time I've paid for the full services. Complained to
no avail.

The terminology they use on this page:
https://publish.insightbb.com/html-jsp/publish/fpextensions/index.php is
confusing. They say: "Earlier this year Microsoft discontinued support and
distribution of Microsoft FrontPage, commonly used for the design of web
pages. The support of FrontPage Extensions requires a set of server side
plugins known as IIS Extensions or FrontPage Server Extensions to allow its
content and publishing features to work. Due to the lack of support for this

They use the term IIS which implies they are running Windows Servers, in
which case, their reference to lack of support is not true. Microsoft will
provide mainstream support for the FPSE2002 on Windows Server 2003 for as
long as they support Windows Server 2003. "Mainstream support will end two
years after the next version of this product (Longhorn) is released.
Extended support will end five years after mainstream support ends."

Then they would remove them assumably. But why remove something that's not
broken? Expressions won't harm content using the FPSE.

Thank you ! I will forward this information to the appropriate people as
soon as they can figure out who they are.
