Frontpage 2003 hangs listing pages during publishing

Hi

I haven't been able to publish my website in Frontpage 2003 via FTP for a
few months now. When clicking the Publish Web Site button using local to
remote settings, Frontpage will just sit there saying listing pages ... I
can click stop and then use frontpage as normal. It used to return some
errors afer a period of time, however, I never wrote them down as I thought
it might be a server issue. However, it still persists and I have left it
attempting to publish for over an hour, with no error returned. If I stop
and then view the log file, it simply says Transaction aborted.

I can publish the files using another FTP client with no problems. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled Frontpage 2003 and it is fully patched and
service packed.

Does anyone have any ideas or pointers?

Thanks for any help

The FrontPage FTP client does not work with some servers. But try
toggling the Passive FTP setting:

With the local web site open, click the Remote Web Site tab at the
bottom of the screen - you may have to log in. Click Remote Web Site
Properties.
Tick the box "Use Passive FTP". If this is already ticked, then clear
the box.
Try publishing again.

Thanks Ron,

I did indeed play with the settings, and through trial and error, find that
the Passive option appeared to work. Its odd as it was never required
before, and my hosts haven't notified me otherwise. Not sure what the
Passive part means, but as long as it works I'm happy!

I hope that others may find this "solution" useful, as searching the
internet, I found others with the same problem, but no solutions.

Thanks again, you were spot on!.

This is exactly what's been happening to me but I'm trying to publish via http. Used to be able to publish this particular site no problem and I publish several other similar sites to (I think) the same remote server without it hanging.
Anyone have any suggestion as to what to perhaps clear out or check on the remote server - I can see everything OK on there through Frontpage, and it lists all the directory structure and files within a couple of seconds, but as soon as I press the publish button, it hangs saying listing files on remote website
