FrontPage 2000 problems

I've been maintaining a FrontPage generated website since 1998 (starting
out with FrontPage 97) and everything has been working smoothly till
now, but after upgrading to Windows XP-pro (and installing FrontPage
2000 there) it has more or less stopped working. I'm still able to open
the web in FrontPage, but when I try to exit, the program usually hangs
and won't quit. Also, it then sometimes starts an endless series of
prompts to save some arbitrary html file, over and over again, (same
file) and the only way to get out of it, is to shut down Windows (and
lose all my work) I've tried running a repair operation as well as
removing and re-installing FrontPage, but no avail. The problems still
remain - unchanged. Anybody got an idea what might cause the problems,
and what I can do to fix it? Any specific services that need to be set
to start on booting for example?
The funny thing is, I've kept my old Win98SE (in a separate partition by
using a boot manager, i.e no dual boot and shared system files) and the
FrontPage 2000 problems are exactly the
same there, so I'm beginning to suspect there must be a flaw in
FrontPage 2000 (?) Or perhaps more likely, that some corrupted data in
the web makes FrontPage start an endless loop, and stop responding.
