frontpage 2000 client "Couldn't open file" message

On my laptop (xp) I suddenly get the message "Couldn't
open file" with the path to the file when I try to open
it with frontpage, even if I just created that file with
frontpage. User permissions are fine (can open it with
notepad for example). I uninstalled andreinstalled
frontpage, still the same.
Any idea how to resolve this?

PS: This is really something else. I found that I must
have had this problem some while ago and also posted
about this on google newsgroup. I did not have this
problem the last few months, so I must have had resolved
this somehow, but I don't remember how!!!!
 
Have you tried the usual repairs
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
4) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP & IE

PS
also make sure you have all the latest OS, IE and MS Office Critical Patches installed from Windows Updates
