Front End Code is Gone

Hi Groupies:

I have created an Access 2007 split database for my client.

They called me today to say that everything is frozen and nothing happens
when they push buttons etc.

I had them send me the FE and it appears that all of the code has been
completely wiped out! Events still have the text [Event Procedure] but when
I go to look at the VB there is nothing there!!

They have experienced 2 issues that they mentioned to me.

1. One report needs to print on a dot matrix printer. If the report is more
than one page, the printer throws out junk. I think it's a driver issue but
they say they have the most recent.....
2. One of their remote locations tried to connect to the FE via a dial up
internet connection. Obviously this is a gong show in the making but I don't
know what the final result of that connection attempt was. I think they just
disconnected because it was so slow....

Anyway, would either of these 2 instances cause major corruption like this?

Is there something else I should be doing here?

....? "tried to connect to the Front-End..."?

Does this mean the users don't each have a copy of the front-end on their
PCs?

Please describe your configuration...

Hi Jeff:

Good Question!

I think they sent a copy of the front end to one of their satellite offices
(I wasn't involved in this part). However, I know that the BE is on one
server in the Head Office.

So, one method would be that they use their local FE while connected to the
server via a dial up connection. I guess the alternative would be that they
connect to the FE on the server via the dial up.

Would it make a huge difference and cause this to happen?

If folks are using dial-up, your Access application may be subject to
frequent corruption (I understand that flakey connections cause many
problems).

If you give folks a single copy of a FE to use, but have multiple folks
trying to use it at the same time, your Access application may be subject to
frequent corruption (what if personA opens the server-based FE, then personB
opens it also, and personA shuts off his PC?).

The preferred design is a copy of the FE running on EACH user's PC,
connnected to a SINGLE BE on your network.

Thanks for confirming my instincts Jeff.

I will have to check into what they are up to a little closer.
