Front door on a case?

I'm building a new computer and noticed that the majority of cases
come with a front door you have to open to get to a drive. Is this
stupid? I mean why open a door to be able to insert a disk. Am I
missing something or did some teacher invented this?

The door is for esthetics, so you are not looking at a bunch of drives and
bays. I like the one on my Antec Sonata; keeps a clean, uncluttered look.
Bit of a pain to open when I need to get to the drives, but no so much I've
ever taken it off.

Not to mention its quieter when roms need full speed for long time.....and
After that dvd rom player stabbed my monitor and my eyeball invisibly....
I'm glad there's a another layer of something besides the roms drawer before
"itshitz" destruction finds me.....

How the hell did you get the air duct back in? If you did get it back in did
you put fans in it?

That brings up a good point. Those darn programs that love to auto-eject the
CDs on you :)

One thing I always do it remove the hard catch on my door and replace it
with a small magnetic latch. That way if the CD or DVD ROM drawer opens the
door just pops open and there is no grinding gears. Just a very small
magnet, and very small bit of metal and a small touch of hot melt glue is
all it takes.

Handy when I wanted a black case (antec sonata) but my dvd drives were
white and I couldn't afford to replace them.

Well, I don't know about 'majority' as it strikes me that most don't but,
be that as it may, there's a number of reasons. For one, some people think
they look better and not everyone is shoving CDs in and out all day so it's
of little consequence to open a door the few times they do.

Businesses like them for servers because they don't *want* just any ole Joe
shoving CDs in there, in which case (pardon the pun) they also like them
to lock.

And folks with rug rats like the door to keep inquisitive fingers, and
cookies, and jelly sandwiches, et all, out of the thing. You can laugh but
it's a major issue for many and lots of folks find themselves looking for a
locking computer desk to house their 'wide open front' HP mini-towers in
for just that reason.

How hard is it to open a door FFS?
Do you not have doors where you live then?

I wouldn't have it.

I found an old server at a landfill... it has a big case with six
bays. It's big, clunky and ugly, but practical and it didn't cost me
any money.

It came with an AT PSU so I am using the reset button for my power
switch.

Never took the air duct out. I need to, though.....

Oooh, I like that. Must try.
