I aparently have a corrupt FrontPage 2000. I worked on a web page last
night, it was getting sluggish and touchy and responding very slow. Now,
this morning, I cannot open the web page in FP. FrontPage opens but not the
web page I am working on. I have shutdown all programs running, such as the
antivirus, but still I cannot open a web page in FrontPage. I have applied
an update to FrontPage a while back when I upated to Win XP Home. Is there
a standard fix or procedure to Help FrontPage back to normal when this kind
of thing happens? Is there a cache to flush in FP?

I did find that thread and tried it. So far it has not helped. Now front
page won't open at all. :-( I am allowing the error report to be sent.
This time it is a big report requiring my premission to send.

I did a FP repair through Add/remove. It looks like the web page I am
working on is too big for FP limitations. It is a spreadsheet with data
converted to html. I have removed the extra code by converting it with Open
Office instead of MS but it is still a big page.

Is FP XP or 2003 better with size limitations? Wondering if it would be
worth it to update to a newer version since I am running XP.

No version of FrontPage will work with a web page that has over 30000
lines of code. That implies a file size of 1Mb or more - probably
much more.

Apart from the number of lines of code, there is no size limitation
that I know of, in any version.

That is good to know before I run out to update for that particular reason.
Lines of code could be the problem since it is a tables grid. The file is
not a mg though. The page is not too slow even on dial-up. Fp 2000 hangs
when I make any changes, or change between WYSIWYG page, to HTML to preview.
Even a simple <br> added will cause it to hang.

I use to have a utility for Win98 that cleaned the code in a converted to
HTML page. I thought I solved the problem when I found that Open Office
does not load the page with useless code like MS does. Do you have the link
to the code cleanup utility? I don't remember what it is called so can't
google it.

How much memory does the PC have?
What is the size of the Windows Virtual Memory?

When is the last time you delete all .web from the FP cache folder?
When is the last time you clean your temp folder and the recycle bin?

When is the last time you ran scan disk and defrag of the system (the two items above should be done
before this)

How much memory does the PC have?
*640 RAM, P III 800

What is the size of the Windows Virtual Memory?
*Set to Windows default Paging size 576 mb. [Seems low for what I do.]
What is a good setting for FP users?

When is the last time you delete all .web from the FP cache folder?
*Today after using the FP Cleaner Ut posted here.

When is the last time you clean your temp folder and the recycle bin?
*Frequently or when I receive a disk error on reboot.

When is the last time you ran scan disk and defrag of the system
*I check every few weeks. With XP NTFS it doesn't often say I need to Dfrag.
I keep a tidy Windows system so I run maintinance often.

I have 512 RAM, P4 2.66 with 1152 MB Virtual Memory

Try doing the following:

Disable Index Service, under Start Menu | Search or via Add/Remove | Admin Tools | Services

Under System Properties | Performance Options | Advanced | Visual Effects
Set to: Adjust for best performance

I found Services Under Admin tools but how do I disable Index Service? I
don't see Index Service. And I am totally lost on the System Properties
tweak.

Scroll down the list of running services, then right click on it.

or

If you want to remove it entirely from your system use Add/Remove | Windows Components and uncheck
Indexing Service

It isn't installed on my computer. That explains why I could not find it.
Thanks for your help.

No I run AVG7. FrontPage is faster when I shut down all programs, including
the anti virus, when working on a large page.

Microsoft Office HTML cleanup tool.

Also works with Office 2002 files, but you need a program from Office
2000 installed in order to install the filter.
