from win98 to winXP

In our office we have an Acer Aspire who had winXP installed, but someone preferred to remove it and did an image copy from another hard disk with vin98.
Now the prob is I want to format the HD and to use the recovery cd.
When I insert the recovery cd, strangely nothing happens.
Do u think it'll work if I try to boot from an old winCd and do fdisk and then i reboot using the recovery cd?

May depend on the type of recovery cd, you might want to contact Acer to
confirm.
If people in yr office can ammend a sys in this way what else are they
loading/downloading - it leaves yr buis open to all sorts of problems, legal
and others
