I have backed up My Documents and want to totally wipe my
hard drive clean and start fresh with XP. I have the full
Home version as well as the Professional Upgrade, which I
want to use. What steps should I take to format the hard
drive and load XP Pro?

Thanks,
Pat

You do not need to use XP Home at all if you have a Windows Me CD. Just set
your BIOS to boot form the CD-Rom and pop the XP Pro Upgrade version into
the drive. When you get to the screen asking what you want to do select the
option to install Windows XP. You will be prompted for a qualifying product
to satisfy the upgrade disk. Pop your Windows Me CD into the drive at that
time. In a moment you will be prompted for your XP CD again and you can
carry on with the install. When you reach the screen asking you to format
make sure you choose the Full Format option. It is generally best to use
NTFS rather than FAT when installing XP.

If your computer will boot/startup from the CD drive then
simply load the XP installation CD and restart the
computer. Follow and read the onscreen instructions
carefully. This will delete everything on your hard drive
and is the best clean way. If pro is an upgrade you'll
need on hand, the home cd for upgrade verification.
You'll also need product keys.
