Hi Sabari,

Yes, this is a new feature -- and unfortunately there is no real way to change this behavior.

Hello,
I recently installed Messenger 6. Since then, I dont get to see the
ppl who are blocked my me. Earlier, I was able to see them when they
were online status eventhough they were blocked. I'm able to see their
online status only if I unblock them. Is this a new "feature" or is
this some kinda bug or is this happening to me only (I had Messenger
Plus! installed but this is happening even after I uninstalled it). My
OS is Win2KPro.

Any response would really be appreciated.

Thanks
Sabari.

Hi Alan,

It just might be that your Messenger cache (essentially a temporary holding area for contact
lists) is not saving properly. To [attempt to] correct this, close Messenger (right-click
its icon and choose Exit), then open the registry (click Start, Run, enter "regedit.exe" and
click OK).

Then, if you're using Windows Messenger 4.x, go to (they look like small folders) My
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService. Click the MessengerService
key, then click the small '+' next to it. You'll then see GroupStateCache, and ListCache.
Click GroupStateCache, then go to the Edit menu, and then choose Delete. Say "Yes" to
confirm the operation. Do the same for the ListCache key.

If you're using MSN Messenger 6, go to (they look like small folders) My
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger. Click the 'MSNMessenger' key
(which again, looks like a folder), then go to the Edit menu, and then choose Delete. Say
"Yes" to confirm the operation.

Then restart Messenger from the Start, All Programs menu and sign in again.

Greetings Alan,

Do you mean each time you sign in? When you readd them,
do you just go to the Privacy tab in
the Messenger options, and choose 'Add to Contacts'?

Thanks Jonathan for that response. Based on your vast experience,
would you think this "feature" would be likened by all users ? Do you
foresee that this "feature" would be reverted back to its original in
future ?

Thanks again,
Sabari.

Hi Sabari,

Actually now that I re-read your post, I don't think we're referring to the same thing --
there are some new 'policies' for blocked contacts in MSN Messenger 6, but you should still
be able to see if they're online (via the contact list). Do you mean that when you block
someone, they fall offline?

Hi Sabari,

Oh I understand now -- no, this isn't a configuration issue, they won't show up in the Send
an Instant Message option because you can't send a message to a blocked person. Instead if
you want to check their status, just double-click on the main Messenger icon and look at the
main contact list.

Thanks Jonathan, but wasnt this a feature in all the previous versions
? I used to see the online status (whether they are online, away, busy
or offline etc) of all my blocked contacts !

Thanks
Sabari
