If some of your questions are not being answered, it's
probably because people are exhausted answering the "same"
questions over & over & over, etc. Believe me! we DO want
to help!

Please! take the time to review/search ALL posts, for
questions similar to your own.

I've noticed repetitive (repeated) questions more times
than I can count! They also tend to take up space & time
on the board.

Again, please take time to review.
A BIG Thanks!

Another VERY helpful thing would be for you to type the
exact problem in your "Subject" line, instead of just:
Help, or Big Problem, or XP ... etc.

Thanks!

Right, but my window of this NG shows the earliest post to be 8 July. For a
relatively new "subscription" to a NG such as this, there is not a great
deal of history visible.

Even so, my window shows 1500 messages. A keen new subscriber with a
problem could have a lot of stuff to plough through, and where there is a
lower level of expertise this can be daunting if not bemusing.

And of course advice is appreciated. These NGs are a source of much
learning.

(I was one of the many who emailed M$ in protest when the reality-challenged
M$ bean-counting gnomes were going to pull the plug on the MVP program)

Err that's why Google Groups (formerly DejaNews) was invented! You can find
answers to any question you may have going back 22½ years!

Hmmmm. Yet your sig says:
..... Please post
all correspondence to the group so that all may benefit. Thank you.

Why not simply "Please address all queries to Google Groups so we can all
play Solitaire" ?

I noticed the same and created a folder with the most commonly asked ones;
believe its called FAQ in other forums. But there often are shades of
difference between posts, so for the few I do answer, it's usually an
individual vs copied response.

Because all of the messages (since they are "public") go to Google anyway, as it is usenet.

You should also mention the BUG in OE News Reader. When you post a message
in a NG even though the poster can see it no one else can. resubscribing to
the NG will temporally fix the problem.

??? If that were true, I wouldn't be able to see this message of
yours that I'm replying to.

There's no such bug - the fact that you're having a problem with OE doesn't
make it a 'bug'. This is a problem peculiar to your set up that doesn't
affect me, or Ken Blake or Jim Macklin.

What problem? I don't have such a problem, and I've never had
such a problem.

Neither have I. I would guess that the majority of OE users haven't either.
Stop blaming OE for your failure to set it up correctly. Methinks we have
what is known in the trade as a BCAK or ID-Ten-T error.

Good for. I'm not going to lower myself to your standards and debate the
issue. Is my reply to ken.

And I HOPE by all means you are not an MVP

GAWD ! I may have gotten it. Explains why K-Man hasn't been riding my
behind recently. How do ya know and how do ya fix this ?

This has nothing to do with OE, as it will also happens with other
newsreaders. The msnews.microsoft.com servers have been acting up lately and
they are not syncing the posts correctly. It is the luck of the draw when to
sign on to the newsgroups and post what server you will access. If you
access the server that is not sysncing properly you will not see all the
posts. I sometimes never see my original post, but will see replies to them.
So this is exactly opposite of what you describe as the bug. When you delete
and resubscribe, you will sometimes get all the posts, but not always.

This group gets typically 1000 messages a *day*. So your 1500 is low.
A lot of the trouble arises from people who cannot find their own posts
and answers to they (And this is made worse by use of the Web interface
to them, which is very unsatisfactory). And more by those who seem to
think it is an essentially interactive 'support service' where they will
get responses in minutes. You may be lucky there - but people doing a
lot of the replying are spare timers, all around the world, and it may
be anything up to 24 hours before someone gets to see your post. So
patience is needed - there are some people around with a singular lack
of it. Asking a question because you could not find a related post is
one thing: asking over and over because you have not found an answer
within the hour is another.

This reminds me of the early days of Erols.com (an ISP) when they first
started up. I know what you're talking about.

The issue I referring to is not the same. See may reply to Ken.
