Fried MotherBoard ?

If the Motherboard is fried then why does the PC
try to start?
Could it be a bad batter or connection. I've
tried to boot up
both on battery and on electrical connection.
Sometimes it
will boot up and othertimes it won't? Tried to
use System
Re-Install disks but that didn't work either.

How can I know for sure that the Motherboard is
fried and I
really need to get a new PC? I'm buyer beware and
wonder
if that isn't the easy answer to get a new PC
sale?

I've only had the Sony Viao for 18 months and I
have taken
very good care of it.

A mother board is considered fried if some major part is burned out (often
literally). There is no way to be certain unless you take it out and check
it. that often costs more than a new motherboard.

I thought I did
