hi guy's just a quickie how do i do a fresh install of xp pro if the cd
is not bootable.tried boooting off the cd but it just does not want to
play cheers mark

What error messages do you get - if the CD is supposed to be bootable then
it's broken.

If the your machine is properly setup to boot-up from a CD drive and you cannot,
then you probably have a file copy only of the installation CD. An original MS
CD, a 1:1 copy of one, or a properly made slipstreamed version would be
bootable.

As a workaround and if you have a floppy drive on your system you can use the
setup floppy disks which are designed for those systems that could not boot-up
from a CD drive.

All XP installation cd's are bootable. If your machine isn't booting off the
cd, you need to change the boot order in the BIOS. If you have two optical
drives and the boot order is already set correctly, put the cd in the other
drive. I've had some machines that would only boot from the master optical
drive.

There are some legitimate non bootable WinXP disks - ISO images downloadable
from MSDN, or MSDN data DVDs.
To install from such media you need boot floppies or bootable CD (OPK /
WinPE / BartPE), or make a bootable disk: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/
