Frequent restarting of computer

Sir

I own a PC(P-III, 40 GB, 965 speed, 128 MB RAM) from 2002
May. Initially i installed Windows 2000 OS. Recently I
switched to XP. The problem is that the PC restarts
frequently after starting it on. I have formatted the PC,
changes the RAM, but the problem remains and it become so
severe now a days that it will restart with in 5 minutes
after starting. After starting it again, it will restart.
I am a research scholar and my research got held up due to
this. Earlier there was a problem of hanging while working
(when OS was 2000) was there. The cooling fan inside was
damaged and I replaced it with new. Restarting problem
starts after that.

It sounds as though you have the blaster worm on your system. See this page
for removal instructions:

You should also go to Windows Update for all the latest security patches in
order to block this and other exploits.
