Frequent Crashes

I installed Windows XP Pro several months ago, and had
spotty reliability, but for the most part it was fine.
Just recently, I found that the system was getting a
little 'rusty', so to speak, and I did a clean install of
XP. However, now I'm getting a LOT more crashes than
before, and I can't seem to figure out why. I've
installed all of the critical updates, including SP1, to
no effect. The error messages I receive seem to point at
a corrupted driver, specifically my video (NVidia GeForce
4 MX 420) because one of the errors specifically points
to nv4_disp.dll. I replaced the driver, and still have
many crashes. The driver is WHQL-certified, but it
doesn't seem to matter. The error codes I get most are:

0x8E
0x7E
nv4_disp.dll

Any help is appreciated.

Update: Another crash message I get pretty often is
the 'IRQL' etc., etc. The reason I just remembered it is
because I just got it :(. Any help is greatly
appreciated! Thanks!

That indicates a driver, and your Video one is the prime suspect. By
reinstalling you went back to the original, and things have moved on.
You don't say where you 'replaced' it from. but I would go to
www.nvidia.com and get and install the latest Detonator driver that they
specify for Windows 2000/XP
