Frequency of updates?

Has anyone seen any information about Microsoft's committed frequency of
spyware signature updates for this tool? I think the general consensus is
that this tool is about as good as the other popular ones; the question
remains if Microsoft will keep it updated as well (or better than) other
tools.

Hi,

New spyware definitions are released as new spyware is discovered. Program
and spyware definitions will be automatically installed as per users'
AutoUpdater setting and as they become available.

Donna,
I posted a question re autoupdates this morning in the "general" NG. Basically,
how tell if autoupdate is working and have there been any definition or software
updates post Jan 6 (when I downloaded and installed MSAS?
If you could take a look at my post in "general" and reply there, I'd appreciate
it.
Thanks

Check in Help, About. Program version should be 1.0.501, and definitions
5680 As far as I can tell, the date related to the definitions has little
meaning.

Bill,
Thanks for the reply. I show MSAS v1.0.501 and definitions 5680 - maybe that's
why my autoupdater doesn't appear to be doing anything<g>.
How long have you been using MSAS? Have you noticed any updates (siftware or
definitions) since
you started using it?
Thanks again

Actually--if you check out File, Check for Updates right now, 5682 should be
available.

There have been several updates since the beta began.

Bill,
Thanks for the quick reply.
After I read your message re update definitions 5682, I reset the autoupdater to
connect at the next hour. Time came/went no ZAF activity and no def updates.
Then tried the manual update and saw ZAF activity. The definitions 5682
downloaded but it was very slow and sporadic. After the download, the new
definitions showed,
Apparently the auto update doesn't work.
Any suggestions? (I have MSAS set to autodownload any new updates it finds).
Don't know how many others are seeing this so can't tell if it's just me or not.
Thanks again

I don't know for certain that autoupdate is working. I will observe
tomorrow and next week whether machines I have in offices that are on 24x7
have updated or not.

My system updated automatically, as I booted my machine this morning. I got a popup notice of success.
