You could have started a new thread, not continuing, tracking this current
one which concerns with something quite different. Fortunately, I looked
back on my old posts, otherwise yours would have been buried in the archive
unread!
You are on the right track. Don't forget you need to have the most recent
set of mug shots of these baddies, or else the rouges cannot be picked out
from the crowd: unless you have your anti-virus programme's virus profiles
(definitions) up to date, it is useless. Anti-spy, anti-adware and in
general any anti-malware (vandalism) should be in place too.
Now doing the simple things first, after the above check, reset the computer
to a past date when the machine ran normally ( restore a System Restore
Point ).
If that doesn't work, or you don't have a SRP to go back to, think back what
recent additions, hardware as well as software, you have put to the machine.
Remove these and see. Check that you computer is otherwise in good health
by running Check Disk, System File Check, Disk Cleanup and Defrag.
Now we are coming to the more involved stuff. Check the running temperature
of the CPU -- actually this is the most probable cause of your trouble, but
let us be systematic.... The RAM, the hard disk performance. Are these
performing correctly and within their tolerances? If you are lost here,
post back, i.e.starting a new thread this time. Oh, you should tell us the
specifications of your system, under what conditions these
retardations/failures occur, any error messages, and what you have done to
correct the fault.
So, that is how I would go about solving your problem. Hope this helps.
