hi,

i am having trouble with the pc freezing/hanging...
mostly when i use graphics programs. someone told me to
run an anti virus program other than the one i use but i
found nothing... i also used a program to find spyware,
altho it did find some and it removed them, my pc still
freezes. what can i do now?

thanks,
k

Restart in Safe Mode, defrag and do a disk clean up, remember to disable
your screensaver. Also, empty your temp folder. C: Drive > Documents and
Settings > "Your Username" > Local Settings > Temp (folder).

Click Start > Run > type in: "msconfig" without quotes > startup (tab),
uncheck any unnecessary programs from the listing that might be starting up
with the system.

Safe mode loads a minimum of drivers and background programs. In other
words it does not start all processes, one of which may be interferring with
your project.

hi,

will starting in safe mode and running scan disk and
defrag find/fix these problems?

It is a good first step. If it does not help, come back here again. Is
your hard disk formatted with FAT32 or NTFS? NTFS will recover better than
FAT32.

hi,

fat 32... i have 2 hard drives, one 19 and the other
110....512 ram, norton, i'm not sure what else you have
to know... if you need more info, i'll find it for you,

thanks,
k

Fat32 and NTFS refer to the file system you installed XP to. It is one or
the other. This has nothing to do with space on the hard drive.
