Hello:

I am using Microsoft Word 2000 on a Windows XP platform.
I have observed on a few occasions while typing Word documents that my
system would freeze up on me.
It seems that the only way to solve this problem is to do a hard re-boot.

(1) I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced such a poblem and
how they solved it ?
(2) What are some of the things I should look at to solve this problem ?

Thanks

Blame global warming. :-)

Seriously, many freezes are due to overheating. If you are comfortable
opening the case, check that all fans are running, clean the filters,
blow out the heatsinks, and clean the fans. And, you may want to run an
app that shows CPU/Core/HD/MoBo temps in realtime, if you can find one
that supports your hardware. Motherboard Monitor is my favorite, but no
longer supported so does not run on new hardware; SpeedFan is nice but
does not work on some MoBo's; AsusProbe is OK iff you have an Asus MoBo;
Intel Desktop Utilities work on some (of course) Intel MoBo's; etc.

If all temps are OK, my second guess would be the power supply; PSs do
not last forever. Some of the monitor apps above also show voltages.

Here's another that seems to work with most MB's:
http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

It does temps and voltages.

Check that you have all the latest service packs for Office. Also check for
the Office Compatibility Update- that *may* be part of the problem, but not
necessarily.
