Freezing / Unstable? Check RAM

My XP Home system was extremely unstable
(freeze/hang/restart). I had to return it to the vendor
who found that the two 256MB RAM modules did not have
consecutive serial numbers. RAM was replaced and the
system is now stable.

Naturally, consecutive serial numbers have nothing to do with the problem.
Every day, people can and do use memory from multiple vendors mixed in their
PCs and it works fine. You obviously had a bad memory stick.
