Because I have the need to "break up" a huge Powerpoint file, I need to be
able to "freeze" the page numbers from the entire file. In other words, I
have page numbers for my 1000 slide presentation. However, I want to break
up the presentation into more manageable chunks BUT want to maintain the page
numbers from the big presentation -- any ideas??

Thanks,

Mitch

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? You can do this in version 2007.

Michael,

Thanks for the reply. I have version 2007. Would you give me a hint as to
where I do this? Thanks!
Mitch

I believe you want to make a Custom Show. That should give you the option to
select a # of slides or enter a range. This will still keep the # of slides
the same and still allow you to have the slide #s the same.

Echo,

Thank you -- I think that will work.

Also -- If I'm creating a "manual" from these slides and I want to print the
manual as is with the slide numbers and then for the actual presentation I
have additional slides (humor, etc) that I will add, but don't want to throw
off the page numbers -- is there a way to freeze those?? Any ideas? Thanks!

I would use File | Page Setup and start numbering at the appropriate number
for each file. In 2007, Page Setup is on the Design tab.

Batstar:

Thanks! This may work for my second issue. I appreciate you giving this
idea.

All the best,

Mitch

No, there's no good way to do this -- you'd have to change the page numbers
on the actual handout pages each time you print.

File | Send to Word (2003 and prior) or Office Button | Publish | Create
Handouts in Word (2007) are better options. Or there are third-party handout
add-ins like Slide Into Word http://billdilworth.mvps.org/Add-ins.htm or
Handout Wizard http://skp.mvps.org/how/
