Craig

I just completed manual updating of WinXP.

The last file I updated this morning was "811493: Security Update (Window
XP): 3.2 mb".
When installed, my computer starts to freeze once every 20- 30 min or so.
When checked under Administrative Tools, the error I see was "ACPI".
I am wondering whether this particular critical update requires an updated
BIOS or not.

The name of the BIOS on my computer is: Aware Modular BIOS v 6.0 00PC.

Your help would be appreciated. Craig

Not that I know of. You can uninstall the update from the Control
Panel > Add and remove Programs. Also restore Windows to a state from
before the installation of this software and then retry installing the
update. If the same happens, get rid of the update again and leave it
alone.
"How to Restore the Operating System to a Previous State in Windows
XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084)

That's what exactly I did. So far no problem. I have a Dell computer.
That computer has no indication of any problem after installing all critical
and winXP updates. So I would like to know exactly what causes the problem
on this particular computer. craig
