freezes when copying to computer

It starts copying then at 4% it stops and minutes remaining start to climb.
They went up to 600 minutes and I canceled it. I have windows xp and movie
maker 2.1. My movie is 37 mins. long but don't think it should take 10 hours
to copy. Any help would be very much appreciated.
