I am working on a computer with Windows Home. It was locking up on start up
(It would lock up at the "Windows is starting" screen. I put in the Windows
CD (accidently the Pro edition) and went to the recovery mode. I just looked
through the directory and that was it (couldn't remember my DOS commands
). When I restarted the compuuter booted up to the log on screen (taking a
long time ~4-5 min). But after the "Windows is starting" screen a bocx
appears saying I need to activate windows. If I click 'no' it continues on to
the log on screen. If I click 'yes' it freezes. The same box appears at the
log in screen when I try and login. If I click 'no' it trys to log the user
off and freezes . If I click 'yes' it freezes.
What is going on?
There is also a two tone beep going on from just after the post.
This problem occured after the BIOS was upgraded, the power supply was
upgraded, and a new video card installed.
I rolled back the BIOS and put the old video card in.
