Running Pentium 4 with 2.4GHZ CPU Latest version AGP video
adapter, 256 mb memory. Win 2000. Latest Intellimouse
drivers. All Micorosoft updates. Clean system with
Norton Utilities. Mostly in Adobe PDF files freeze using
scroll mouse at slowest settings. But freezes also in IE,
both areas also freezes on page down. Must be a fix for
this someplace Win 2000 not a new product but first time
I'm using it.
Thanks.

If by "freeze" you mean the whole system locks up
and you can't even use the keyboard or ctrl-alt-del,
then that is virtually always a hardware or low-level
driver issue.

If that problem still happens in a safe-mode
boot then you can pretty much assume you have
a hardware issue. Win2K exercises more of the
hardware capabilities than earlier Windows versions,
and so a system that works OK under, say, Win98,
can exhibit problems with 2K/XP.

If by "freeze" you just mean the specific application
freezes then you probably have a mouse or video driver
problem. It is unlikely to be an application-related problem.

Mouse software and drivers have, in my experience,
been notorious for problems like this. I would first suggest
that you uninstall the Intellimouse software, plug in a basic
corded PS/2 mouse, use the standard Windows driver
that loads for it and see what happens. If you still
have the issue then try running with the standard VGA
or SVGA video driver.
