Sam

Im having a problem with my computer freezing, im running
windows xp sp1.

I was under the impression that windows xp couldnt
freeze. Therefore the problem must be with windowsxp
itself.

Everything was working fine on my pc no problems, until i
decided to update from the 'critical update' part of
microsoft.(all the critical security things)

Now randomly the computer will freeze, and the only way
to get back is to reboot. Then at the reboot startup it
freezes and i have to reboot a further time.

Has anyone else experienced problems with the updates?

How can i fix this?

Thanks

XP is like any other piece of software. It can have problems if the wrong
thing is done.

No real issues I've seen with WindowsUpdate that aren't related to 3rd party
issues. Generally when I have a client in your situation the problem is
related to *not* disabling certain name brand AV products during the update
install and/or having malware or adware/spyware present.

However you're statement that it randomly "freezes" at reboot can also point
to hardware issues.

Go here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html to download Spybot and
here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html to download Ad-Aware.
Install both. Launch Ad-Aware and hit the check for update link (and there
will be updates; if it says otherwise, stop and post back). Install the
updates and let it scan using defaults. Let it clean out everything it finds
(hit the help button or visit http://www.lavasoftusa.com for more help or
ask back here). Once it's done it's thing launch Spybot and have it check
for updates (again, use the help function or ask back here if you have
problems). Once it's updated, let it scan and take the default clean up if
any.

If you're still having issues after the above then go to
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download HijackThis. Run it
hit scan (lower left) then hit save log (lower left) and paste results back
here. Do *not*, at this time, let HijackThis fix anything or you may hose
your system. Also, post back with what you're using for AV.

It seems that Microsoft has made a virus here

After uninstalling Q317277,Q811493 and KB824146 my computer is working again

Better to take the chance of someone braking into my computer than everyday freezes!!!
