If Spyware is free, howcome i get a message saying it'll
expire within xx days? What should i do when this version
expires? Just download a new one?

It would be nice to have a reply to this question.

I have the same message since about 1 week now.

New download ?
Next version = no longer free ?

Thx,

J.M.

I installed the latest downloadable version, which has
version # 1.O.509, but I still get the warning that the
software will expire on July 31, 2005.

As mentioned about a million times :-)
Free for legal Windows 2K/XP users; you have to pay for the corporate
version.

The question asked in this thread is answered multiple times daily. I'm
having some trouble understanding why it is so hard to find.

Microsoft Antispyware is not freeware--that implies something specific about
licensing which would be inaccurate.

Microsoft Antispyware will be available without additional cost to licensed
Windows customers.

Here's what Bill Gates said:

"We've looked hard at the nature of this problem, and made a decision that
this anti-spyware capability will become something that's available at no
additional charge for Windows users -- both the blocking capability, and the
scanning and removal capabilities. Those are features we think should be
available to protect every system."

Please don't confuse the time-limited nature of the beta product with this
issue of the cost of the final version.

Don't forget to mention that this product is currently i beta, so that is
why it will expire.

now you know why I lurk around instead of posting to a bunch of newbies testers

While sipping a glass of wine, I read that Bill Sanderson wrote in

Its licensed to licensed Windows users for free, well the final version will
be. We still have a beta 2 to go.

I'm gonna go sip a glass of wine with some neighbors now--I won't even
bother lurking!

I don't think that the answer is hard to find, it's just that some people are
extremely lazy and can't be bothered to look.

The HTML user interface to these groups has had the search function disabled
for months, and is quite awkward to use. For example, the expand threads
function (click on the little plus) doesn't work with mozilla-based
browsers. Google doesn't index these groups.

Sure--these answers are easy to find with NNTP, but not so easy for a large
proportion of the users here.

Oh, okay. But even without being able to use the search function, by going back
a bit in the messages and checking out the subject of the message, a person
could find the answer.

They could, maybe. I really haven't every systematically tried that using
the HTML interface--try it out sometime--there's a link under Help in the
..509 build.

I use it to post every so often. It is pretty easy to look at the most
recent 10 posts or so and see which haven't had responses, etc, but
otherwise it is painful to use.

There is a much more effective HTML interface now in use for public groups.
I was hoping we'd get switched to it before now--perhaps when beta2 comes
around. It has its downside, too--you need to register with Passport--which
is both a strength and a weakness.
