Windows already supports that feature:
1. Open Explorer
2. Choose Menu item Tools > Map Network Drive
3. Select the drive you want to create, and link it to the folder in the
dialog box.

A little confusing (to me). Are you after a virtual HD or a virtual machine?

Pardon my lack of knowledge and terminology...too old to take in stuff these
days.

What I want is to create a virtual drive (?) within my main drive so I can
switch to it just for gaming. In other words, it would load only that which
is needed to play on line. Hope that clarifies it sufficiently and thanks
for the help.

Some suggestions:

1. You could try this program (suggested by someone else, so I don't
know anything about it):
http://freewebhosting.hostdepartment.com/p/publicfree/gamexp.htm

2. If you're using Win XP or 2000, you could set up a new user account
with limited permissions that loads only the necessities (no
unnecessary programs that load when the PC boots up).

If you have programs that you installed as Admin (or from an account
with admin permissions) they will still load, so you may need to
uninstall them and reinstall them so that they only run in the account
you need them to run in.

[Note: Both of these ideas were published recently in the LangaList
Plus! edition (www.langalist.com).]

3. This article has a good treatment of MS's Virtual PC:

4. The LangaList of 28 June 2004 has links to virtual PC resources:

From the developers web site:

Circle Virtual CD creates a virtual CD-ROM drive on your
Windows PC. This allows you to make images of your favorite
CD-ROMs and use them without inserting a CD into a CD-ROM
drive. Circle Virtual CD: 1) improves the speed at which you
access data, 2) stops you from having to switch disks in and
out of your CD-ROM drive. Use Circle Virtual CD to easily
access your favorite games, favorite music or favorite
software programs. Since Circle Virtual CD uses CircleScan
(tm), nearly *any* CD can be imaged.
