I've got a nasty little program that bills itself as a search engine
"global search" that starts of its own accord in explorer(IE5) I can
usually shut it down after it starts, but it's eating up my BW while
it starts. I'm trying to hunt it down ( used ad aware, don't know if
it worked)

Any clues on what free ware touse to kill this sucker off

TIA

Global search hijacker huh. Or finder?

Tried spybot s&D yet? That's the other highly regarded spyware/adware
remover.

If that still doesnt work, we need to remove it manually. But this is not
the place to do it. Download http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , follow the
instructions and post below.

You have been hijacked by the Coolwebsearch parasite.

Get and unpack the following and run the CWShredder.exe.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Read about it.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

NOTE: if you can not get to these sites then your HOSTS file has been
hijacked as well. See the following about HOSTS file.

Get and update SpyBot Search and Destroy through its online update function.
http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/

Ad-Aware is also a good "adware" remover.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Get a good HOSTS file to stop theses nasties.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

SpywareBlaster also stops these nasties.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Keep these things up to date as new nasties come along just like
viruses/worms.
