I need to install a Logitech M305 mouse but Logitech forces me install a
25MB package (called SetPoint) to get the drivers. I can't find the
driver files on the WWW.

I want to install Setpoint, track all changes to my system, locate and
back up the driver files, uninstall Setpoint, install the driver files.

I want a freeware which tracks new files. This site suggests Zsoft or
Total Uninstall. I don't actually need an uninstaller app. Any
preferences? My pc is slow and has a very big system disk with hundreds
of installed progs?

Have you considered trying to extract the drivers from the install
program using Universal Extractor and then manually installing the drivers?

Yes *but*, in order to be able to do a complete uninstall of monitored
program installations, both ZSoft and Total Uninstall create pre and
post installations logs, and then compare the two for differences after
the installations.

Those differences are saved for you to be able to either review (which
would meet your needs) OR to optionally completely remove an
installation by using the program which did the monitoring.

In other words, you don't *have* uninstall a program if you don't want
to, you can simply review the saved list of changes created by either ZS
or TU.

If you insist on a program which only monitors installations though, you
might want to try SpyMe Tools:

http://www.lcibrossolutions.com/spyme_tools.htm

I have never used the program though. I downloaded the .zip version (no
installation required) and ran it through Jotti's. Here are the results:

http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanresult/9d8b7f687877c44c86a6492337c51eb77146adb0

As you can see, Sophos says that it contains "Sus/Madcode-A", but that's
only a generic term for files that Sophos says are "suspicious". SpyMe
Tools is listed at Nonags:

http://www.nonags.com/freeware-spyme-tools_2472.html

and as you can see, they say that the program is clean. Note that this
program detects BOTH registry and disk changes, not just registry
changes. This seem to be what you're looking for.

Iguess it may depend on the version of Windows involved but I've found
most of the Logitech stuff just plugs in and works these days.
You may have to wait for Windows to install some drivers but IMHO it
should just work.

I need to do the same and was about to try Zsoft as it says that it lets you do a before and after scan of files / directories and registry and then compare after you've done the install.

If it works like I hope I'll post. The only other program I've found which is no longer free so you'd have to find an earlier version is called Regview and it does exactly what you want - I just didn't want to buy it but here's the link to where it is now http://www.regview.com/ Good Luck -ct

Zsoft Uninstaller will do what you want. Go to help and look up advanced uses and look for "analyze an installation" -------clutrain
