Are there any freeware tile generator programs for creating webpage
backgrounds which can also be used for commercial applications?

I've been looking at sTile at:

http://www.harmware.com/stile.htm

which is pretty good but is only for personal use.

I'm particularly interested in any program which allows the setting of
a colour gradient.

Regards,

Don't know whether this helps or not. I've only used the Buttonz part.
Buttonz! and Tilez! (donationware)

Have a look at Reptile. Requires registration, just a name and email
address and they mail you the key.

Hi Dszady,

Thankyou for the link! I've downloaded B/Tilez and am trying to figure
it out - there doesn't appear to be a help file (I only get a blank
screen).

I've just got the hang of how to set the gradient (er, more or less!)
and was initially a bit disconcerted to find the RGB values aren't in
the normal range of 0 tp 255 - I've only just started playing with
graphics so I'm not very flexible in my thinking!

Anyway, the program is gonna be useful if nothing else comes along,
and if my fledgling idea of a commercial enterprise ever gets off of
the ground, then I won't mind making a donation.

One thing that did surprise me, though, was that there were two set-up
programs in the folder and I clicked on the 'wrong' one - it's
labelled 'Internet Communications Settings' and I got a warning that
it would change my settings so I made sure I was offline during the
install - I couldn't install without it being there.

I imagine its harmless otherwise I wouldn't have gone ahead but I've
removed it from the folder now.

Thanks again,

Hi Riggs,

Thanks for the link, I couldn't find anything on the website saying
whether Reptile 2 could be used commercially so I'll download it & see
what it says during the install!

Look at one of the websites below. Go to the Graph-Textures section. Lots of
texture generators there that make tilable textures.
