I find leaving a facecloth over the edge of the bath works for sharks.

It must work. I have never had a shark in my bath.

Eat plenty of baked beans, Heinz are best, then train your rectum.
Freeware and green (P.C. consumes no electricity as it doesn't need to be
turned on).

Searching for "mosquito" at <http://www.thaiware.com/> turns up a
couple. Unfortunately, the one that works under WinXP appears only
to have a Thai language version.

I didn't know that mosquitos could speak Thai.

I understand they have an universal language 'cos they never had
this Tower of Babel excuse.

This link provides a Thai/English download.

Anyone remember the diy anti-mos repellers kit so popular a few
years back. eg. in Popular science magazine etc? Something about
pregnant mosquitos emitting a certain frequency - to keep others
away(?)

Have tried that before - seems to work but can't be very sure since
there weren't enough mosquitos around to prove that. in amy case,
it's free and may come in handy should one in the Tropics run out of
Vape Mat.

Btw. I live next door to Thailand :). Lot's of mosquitos?
Depends on the locality. Not in the urban areas.

Depnds on the species and even then it may not work.

1. Establish the EXACT species you wish to deter.

2. Search for data/info which may disclose IF a particular sound has
been scientifically tested and established, that will deter the
species. Do Not Assume!

3. Knowing the wavelength and the db will give you the basis upon
which to conduct your search for appropriate software such as Audacity
(freeware) or CoolEdit (commercial).

4.All you gotta do then is create the sound, record it and test it.

Easy, isn't it?

Cheers,
(an amateur entomologist with knowledge of Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and
Arachnidae but knowlegde of mosquitoes & allied families is beyond my
ken.)

I sure missed the meaning of the first post.

I thought he wanted a sound to drive off tele-marketers to blow in their
ear.

On retrospect, it's not a bad idea. ;)

I'm working on one that I can send as an email to certain "pests".

Seriously, are you trying to attract them, or repel them? Or include
them in a program or MPEG/MP3 for some reason? I've never heard a
cockroach, but I'll be there is some sampled stuff on the net if you
Google hard enough.
