Is there such a thing? I know I can run coyote linux on an old 486, but I'd
like to know if there's something I can run on a win98 machine.

If it's Win98SE, you can use the ICS that's built in.

mmm, yes, thanks, I tried that. but I require transparent ip, udp and dns
forwarding, such as NAT provides. ics does not suit in this particular
instance, unless I overlooked something.

My son plays unreal on-line sometimes. we do it now using a udp proxy, but
it requires a bit of configuration each and every time. Plus, if i'm not
playing, I still have to load the game, and go on-line to set up all the
values for him. That's ok because I have unreal installed. But he's got
other games that I don't have installed, so I can't do the configuration
for them. Besides, I'd kind of like to skip all the hassle and let him
connect directly anyway.

It seems like that I saw something along those lines at tinyapps, so it
might be worth your while to poke around over there:

Thanks, I took a thorough look around, but once again all I could find was
coyote linux and freesco. :) might be the way I end up going...

FWIW

Not sure about the NAT part, but for easy config of ICS

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/ics/icsconfiguration.htm

Look for "ICS Configuration V1.5"

Wingate?
There is not a "free" or "lite" version of Version 3. However you can
still download earlier versions of Wingate, which include the "free"
version, from their FTP site .

I seem to remember a free version of WinRoute Lite, however since the
Tiny/Kerio split I can not find one. C/Net still has the pay/trial
version, however tiny's and kerio's sites no longer offer it.
